We’re thrilled to kick off our hybrid lecture series on Greek and Roman epigraphy! 

These lectures are primarily tailored for students from the Universities of Belgrade, Sofia, and Skopje, but they’re open to anyone passionate about ancient history and inscriptions.

Upcoming Lecture: Epigraphic Practice in Ancient Thrace
By Dr. Nikolay Sharankov, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski"

Dr. Sharankov, a valued member of the Prometheus Project team, will take us on a journey through 12 centuries of epigraphic habits in ancient Thrace, from the 6th century BC to the 6th century AD. His lecture will demonstrate how thousands of Greek and Latin inscriptions reveal fascinating details about literacy, education, and craftsmanship in the region.

The lecture will also delve into how stone-cutters prepared, framed, and refined inscriptions, while shedding light on the ambitions of authors and purchasers to demonstrate their cultural sophistication through verse inscriptions.
