Telamon and Prometheus: Advancing Digital Epigraphy Together!

✨ At the Prometheus Project, we continue the valuable work initiated by our colleagues from the Department of Classics at St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia with the Telamon Project (https://telamon.uni-sofia.bg/en/) Telamon’s goal is to create a digital library of ancient Greek inscriptions from Bulgaria, revising and updating monumental editions like Georgi Mihailov’s Inscriptiones Graecae in Bulgaria repertae, while also incorporating new discoveries. This bilingual digital corpus provides unrestricted access to these inscriptions, making it an essential resource for the study of ancient history and culture in the region. The project is developed as part of the activities of the National Interdisciplinary Research E-Infrastructure for Bulgarian Language and Cultural Heritage Resources and Technologies (CLaDA-BG).

✨ In the framework of the Telamon project, a custom EpiDoc XML template was developed in accordance with the specific features of the local epigraphic heritage of the Balkan Roman provinces. Additionally, the AIAX front-end service and visualisation platform was created to index and display collections of inscriptions, with an additional CMS module to manage the content of digital epigraphy websites. ✨The Prometheus Project will build its web platform for storing and displaying inscriptions based on Telamon's solid foundation. Together with our colleagues from the Digital Epigraphy expert team at Sofia University, we aim to take this work further by integrating more storytelling elements, offering richer context and narratives around the inscriptions. Both projects are interconnected and essential for advancing Digital Epigraphy, each making unique contributions to spreading the knowledge about ancient inscriptions.
