Introducing the PROMETHEUS Project Partner Institutions: Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", Bulgaria

???? The Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" ( https://www.uni-sofia.bg/eng) is the oldest and most prestigious higher education institution in Bulgaria, established in 1888. Through the work of notable scholars from the Department of Classics (https://kkf.proclassics.org/en/) such as the world-renowned scholar Georgi Mihaylov, the University has always played a pivotal role in the development of epigraphy in Bulgaria.
 
Now the torch has been passed to new generations of classicists, who have already contributed greatly to the introduction of Digital Epigraphy in Bulgaria and the development of projects in the field such as the Telamon collection of ancient Greek inscriptions from Bulgaria (https://telamon.uni-sofia.bg/en/) and others. The experts from Sofia University now bring their extensive experience and skills to the Prometheus Project.

❦ Dimitar Iliev is the University’s research coordinator for the Prometheus Project. As an Assistant Professor at the Department of Classics, he teaches Homeric Greek, Digital Classics, and Romance Linguistics. His active engagement with modern linguistic theories and cutting-edge technology applied to ancient languages has been a key factor in advancing digital epigraphic projects at Sofia University.
 
❦ Nicolay Sharankov has taken over from Prof. Georgi Mihaylov as the leading authority on Latin and Greek epigraphy in Bulgaria today. He is an Αssistant Professor at the Department of Classical Philology, teaching Ancient Greek, Historical Grammar, and Epigraphy. He is also quite frequently the first person to observe and study any newly found ancient inscription from archaeological sites in Bulgaria as part of his duties as a researcher at the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The Prometheus Project will rely heavily on his expertise for the selection, translation and description of the inscriptions from Bulgaria.
 
❦ Elina Boeva is an Assistant Professor in Latin and the technical supervisor for the XML encoding and visualization of the inscriptions for the Telamon collection and for other digital projects at the University. ❦ Kristiyan Simeonov holds MA degrees in Digital Humanities and Cyber Security and is currently an L1 researcher at the Department of Classics. Both have rich experience in Digital Humanities. In the Prometheus project, they lend their expertise to building our database of digital inscriptions.
 
❦ Ralitsa Ivanova holds a BA degree in Classics from Sofia University. With her experience in communications, project dissemination and digital storytelling, she is a valuable member of our Communication and Dissemination Team.
 
❦ Dobromir Dobrev is the administrative coordinator of the Sofia University team in the Prometheus project. He holds a BA in History and an MA in Digital Humanities and has rich experience in project management of DH initiatives.
 
❦ Last but not least, we would like to mention our external associate Ivan Amzov, who has been a collaborator in many of Sofia University’s digital initiatives. In Prometheus, he is the web developer of the digital database of inscriptions and the project’s webpage.
