To the Divine Shades of the Dead. If there are indeed shades of the dead, let them know that you were the hope of our life. And now this stone indicates who you were and where you lie. Lucius Spurennius Herculanus, brother, and Flavia Paula, mother, erected (this monument) for the well deserved Lucius Spurennius Rufus, trumpeter of the cohort of the Mattiaci, who served for 20 years. Farewell, passers-by!
